{Design} Utterly Engaged’s Design Challenge 2012

with one comment

On Leap Day we took part in Utterly Engaged’s Design Challenge for their Leap Year Remix Party, which was held at Pandora on Green in Pasadena, California. We teamed up with Amy, of Bride & Bloom Flowers, and Carson & Kathleen, of Itty Bitty Party Committee. The design challenge was sponsored by Shelter Box, who send relief boxes to countries who have suffered from natural disaster. The rules for this year’s design challenge were to create a sweet heart table which blended the cultures of two countries that Shelter Box has helped. Our team chose to do Japan & Turkey…which led to Japurkey!

The sweetheart table is a large focus of any reception. We knew we wanted to use very vibrant jewel-toned colors, but give it a soft whimsical touch to bring the whole look together. We decided to create an intimate table for two inside a soft tent of sheer white curtains. Two vintage suitcases awaited the bride & groom at the end of the table with custom luggage tags that we designed. They were tags with “Destination Japurkey” printed on them. Of course the bride’s suitcase was the bigger one!

We also created delicate name cards for the bride & groom’s place settings. Each plate was set with two pieces of Mochi (a Japanese dessert) & lime green chopsticks. Yummy. A menu card was displayed on the corner of the table.

Our table was published in Utterly Engaged Issue No. 20. Be sure to take a look. We’re already getting excited for next year’s event!

{Custom} Red & Gold Plum Blossom Invitations

leave a comment »

We created these custom wedding invitations for Moe & John for their Long Beach nuptials. We used a the plum blossom design we had originally created for Jessica & Chad’s wedding the previous year. The red & gold plum blossoms were incorporated throughout the entire invitation suite. Moe & John’s invitations were printed on gorgeous linen card stock. We created a rich invitation, as well as a custom map with a directions card that helped guests find the ceremony & reception venue. The invitation & directions card were held together by a sweet paper band featuring the bride & groom’s name & wedding date.

Red & Gold Plum Blossom Invitations

We chose the plum blossom over the cherry blossom because of the fuller bloom it creates.

Jessica & Chad incorporated day-of elements into their design suite. We created unique & richly designed Table Numbers & Place Cards which worked perfectly with the theme of their wedding. This delicate & culturally unifying imagery helped capture the love they have for each other. The dark brown & red looked like a painting on the laid ivory card stock. Subtle accents of gold are found throughout the designs.

{Resource} An Invitation Timeline: For A Local Wedding

with one comment

Tis’ the season to get engaged! Did you know that 1 in 4 grooms propose to their brides over the holiday season? Yup, so congratulations! Either you or someone you know just got engaged, now what? Let the fun begin!

One of the most important (& our favorite) aspects of planning a wedding is the invitations. It’s your guests first chance to preview what you have in store for the big day. It gives them all the critical information about your day, as well as introducing them to your specific wedding theme. Your invitation should convey who you are as a couple, as well as what you’re envisioning for your big day.

We love working with coordinators & couples alike to get all the needed elements out in a timely manner. Below you will find a helpful timeline that outlines everything you need to know about designing, ordering & mailing your invitations for a local wedding. Stay tuned as we share our timeline for a Destination Wedding. All of these resources can be found on our homepage on our website Paper Cut Industries as well.
