New Gig // Art Director at OC Family Magazine

with 5 comments

Sunrise

Life has a fantastic way of taking you down some very interesting roads. Since my last blog post so much has happened. Fair warning, if you aren’t into reading, this one isn’t for you.

This year has been so wonderful yet it has thrown me so many curve balls. The best part by far was I marrying the love of my life, Jason. I’ve never been more sure of anything when I chose to marry him. But, with getting married, moving into a house, and changes for Paper Cut, this year has really been a whirlwind.

In late July I decided to step away from Studio 404 Weddings. Having a studio location was a great milestone for me, but once I moved into our new home, I knew I could have a great home office & clear up some overhead. Then, came the game changer.

I accepted a new position as the new Art Director for OC FAMILY magazine. My minor obsession with magazines started at a young age & I couldn’t have been more excited to a new challenge. OC Family is a fun magazine & I am super excited to be working on leading the brand to a more modern look. You might have noticed I have been pinning more moms, babies & kids on Pinterest. Understanding a brand is the first step in helping give it a fresh look.

What does this mean for Paper Cut Industries? I’ve decided I will only be taking on a few projects at a time. I’m really looking forward to the some exciting projects ahead! But please contact me for availability.

OC Family magazine November 2012 with Kajsa James Celebrate Moms

Please check out the latest issue of OC FAMILY featuring my debut cover shoot where I directed the shots with Kajsa James who founded the Maddie James Foundation. I worked on with the amazing photographer Challenge Roddie who captured the drama in the ocean juxtaposed with the beautiful Kajsa in the foreground. Amazing shot.

I am super exited about this journey & I can’t wait to share the December issue with you. We will be featuring lots of work by Lyndsey of Jack & Lola Photography. Stay tuned!

{Window Display} Carly Rae Weddings & Events – Rustic Burlap and Lace Inspiration

leave a comment »

When we work on a new window display for Studio 404 Weddings, everyone gets excited. It’s a chance to really explore some fun ideas that might be a recent trend or pushing the boundaries of new ideas for any wedding or event. For our September window, we asked Carly of Carly Rae Weddings & Events if she wanted to be on board & she was definitely excited to start! When we met with Carly to discuss the concept, we knew it would be fantastic to see it all come to life. Her concept started with burlap & lace. The contrast of the neutral whites & natural burlap looked great when paired with the gorgeous pops of pink & peach from the ribbon & flowers.

Charla of Charla Blue Photography created these crafty burlap ribbon montages that held several of her photos in a gorgeous flowing strip!

Carly created these adorable pom doilies that floated lightly above everything. She then wrapped some burlap ribbon & satin peach ribbon around the cake & tulle backdrop to really add some pop of color & softness to juxtapose against the burlap. So adorable! The doilies were then attached to the burlap table-cloth to bring it all together.

Monica had this fabulous lace printed kraft wrapping paper that we used to wrap some gift boxes as additional props that everyone still can’t get enough of. Charla added some fantastic white ornate picture frames that were all different & bold to showcase some of her wedding photography. The final touch was this insanely gorgeous vintage brooch bouquet by Amy! Loads of peach & gold, you just have to see this one in person.

Everyone in the studio contributed to the subtle, but beautiful, hidden gems that make this window display really flow. Amy of Bride & Bloom Flowers brought in small luggage props, and some fantastic vintage clear glass bottles to use as vases for the flowers that just brought the whole thing to life. Can you spot the rustic horse head? Yup! Another hidden gem.

Carly truly put together a fantastic window display! You’ll have to stop by Studio 404 Weddings (our Long Beach wedding studio) to see it for yourself (& pick up Carly’s card!). Don’t forget to come in & say ‘hello’!

Having been off the blogging scene for months now there is no better way to get back into the game than changing up our look & adding to the Paper Cut family. What do you think of the new blog look? We have so many exciting projects to share and new things on the horizon. Not only are we growing at a fast pace, we had to get some help! We extended our internships to 6 months & have a fantastic group dedicated to the company’s success. We have brought on Carson as our PR/Marketing Intern, Kristy as our Production Intern & currently Emelizza is our Graphic Design Intern.  We also have Terri on as a freelance designer & I couldn’t be happier to have each one of them. All are playing a vital role to expand the company, gaining experience in different fields while being team players.

Together we are creating new designs while making sure everything is moving along. So many fresh & new things are happening for Paper Cut so you must stay tuned! Carson will be blogging about our current designs leaving the studio & with this new look you will definitely be on the edge of your seat to read the next post! Pink Orange Yellow Bridal Shower Pinwheels Cake

We started posting lots more of inspiration on Pinterest as well so be sure to see what inspires the custom designs & branding we have been working on. “Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.” It is such a great site to gather all these images. We have been inspired & can’t wait to share all the new designs & projects we have been working on. So welcome back, bienvenue & please enjoy! -xx
