{Design} Utterly Engaged’s Design Challenge 2012
On Leap Day we took part in Utterly Engaged’s Design Challenge for their Leap Year Remix Party, which was held at Pandora on Green in Pasadena, California. We teamed up with Amy, of Bride & Bloom Flowers, and Carson & Kathleen, of Itty Bitty Party Committee. The design challenge was sponsored by Shelter Box, who send relief boxes to countries who have suffered from natural disaster. The rules for this year’s design challenge were to create a sweet heart table which blended the cultures of two countries that Shelter Box has helped. Our team chose to do Japan & Turkey…which led to Japurkey!
The sweetheart table is a large focus of any reception. We knew we wanted to use very vibrant jewel-toned colors, but give it a soft whimsical touch to bring the whole look together. We decided to create an intimate table for two inside a soft tent of sheer white curtains. Two vintage suitcases awaited the bride & groom at the end of the table with custom luggage tags that we designed. They were tags with “Destination Japurkey” printed on them. Of course the bride’s suitcase was the bigger one!
We also created delicate name cards for the bride & groom’s place settings. Each plate was set with two pieces of Mochi (a Japanese dessert) & lime green chopsticks. Yummy. A menu card was displayed on the corner of the table.
Our table was published in Utterly Engaged Issue No. 20. Be sure to take a look. We’re already getting excited for next year’s event!

{Window Display} Itty Bitty Party Committee – Winter Shimmer Inspiration
It’s always so fun to see Studio 404 Weddings get a new window display. I’ve been a part of the Paper Cut Industries team since June 2011 and have had the chance to watch so many planners and creatives come to the studio with these amazing ideas & create these fabulous window displays and tablescapes. All the while I kept taking notes of things I loved about each window and started creating a concept of my own with my partner, Kathleen O’Rourke. Kathleen & I are also the proud principles of Itty Bitty Party Committee, a full service wedding & event planning company. We came to the Studio 404 team and approached them about creating a winter window scene for the holiday season and we were so honored when they said ‘yes!’.
We came to the Studio 404 girls with the idea for a whole new color pallet for the holiday season. Straying away from the reds and greens of years past, the we wanted to create a window that literally brought out of the “shimmer of winter”. With neutral whites to pop off against the metallic silvers and just a hint of dusty rose to compliment each piece, this window really evoked a winter wonderland-ish feel.
Imagine, if you will, being invited to a New Years affair. Your invitation is nestled in a gorgeous ivory satin gatefold box with glittering brooch, all created by the fabulous Monica of Paper Cut Industries. You take your place at the table and notice the bride has left her breathtaking brooch bouquet, created by Amy of Bride & Bloom Flowers, beside her plate.
Looking over the table, subtle details begin to make themselves known, such as the hearts that trim the cake, your name etched across your napkin ring or the tiny candles nestled in what looks like snow-filled vases. The twinkle of the ornaments that hang overhead make it feel as though you’re sitting in very the heart of a winter snow scape. Even though these may seem like itty bitty details, nothing about our events is ever itty bitty. Attention to detail is always paramount in our event design. Each of the napkins in our table scape include the names of the fabulous ladies that make up the studio; Monica, Amy, Charla & Erica. Even the gifts nestled under the tree have tags created from each woman’s individual business cards, such as Charla’s of Charla Blue Photography.
You will have to stop by Studio 404 Weddings and see the window for yourself during the holiday season. Don’t forget to pop in and say ‘hi’ & pick up all of the Studio 404 team’s cards! And the next time you’re thinking about hosting an event, be sure to keep Itty Bitty Party Committee in mind.
