{Holiday} ‘Tis the Season

leave a comment »

This holiday season has inspired me so much with all the festivities going on around me, the crisp cold air, warm clothes and decorations. Some of my must have favorite elements of the season can evoke just the right feelings for you too. For the savvy socialites throwing holiday parties, here is a drink sure to keep your guest warm and chatty.

Holiday Glogg - Holiday Drinks

Holiday Glogg
12 oz. SKYY vodka
1 bottle (750 ml) dry red wine
1.5 tbsp. mulling spices
1 tsp. fresh orange zest
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. blanched almonds
4 tbsp. raisins

Wrap mulling spices in cheesecloth. In a large saucepan, combine the wine, SKYY vodka (or any top shelf Vodka; No one want’s a holiday headache!), cheesecloth with mulling spices, orange zest, and sugar. Allow to very lightly simmer over medium heat for at least 30 minutes (do not boil). Discard the mulling spices. Drop a few raisins and almonds at the bottom of each mug and top with the hot liquid.

Sephora LipAttitude Red Lipstick

Any outfit can be instantly festive with the perfect red lipstick. Finding the right shade is KEY! I highly recommend going to your favorite make-up counter and asking for help. They will match you with the perfect shade for your skin tone and you will be thankful you did!

For your holiday centerpiece, I totally recommend getting crafty! A Thanksgiving party I attended had the centerpieces with flowers and cranberries in the water vase (vs. stones) and thyme thrown in for variety! Such a great solution for color! (Yay Suzanne!) But, one plant I feel get’s overlooked too often are succulents. They can be gorgeous additions to any centerpiece and I am seeing them pop up in all sorts of weddings and events!

Low Country Boil: The Mill Lounge

The Mill Lounge

The Mill Lounge : A short distance from the MeadWestvaco Paper Mill

My friends Christina & Paul invited me to have some Low Country Boil at a local bar called The Mill Lounge. It is a traditional southern recipe that is often served to large groups. Everything is cooked (boiled) in a large pot with seasonings & butter, drained of the water and then poured onto a large table ready for everyone to help themselves. Yummy!

It was by far one of the most interesting things I have done in a very long time! Let me paint the picture for you. So, there is a deck in the back of the bar that was set up with a table and all the condiments you would need (lemons & cocktail sauce). The Low Country Boil consists of sausage, corn on the cob, shrimp, potatoes and this one actually had some crab! I will spare the details but, I will say the crab was not that good! But thanks for getting it for me Paul!

Mediterranean Food : Daniel Island, South Carolina

with one comment

So my mom works on Daniel Island, in South Carolina. I have actually never been there so she took me on a little tour. It was like a gorgeous secluded movie set! The homes were doll-like and the area was so. . . pleasant. I couldn’t believe this is where she goes everyday at lunch take a walk, whether to grab a bite or stroll to a lake sit on a swing and make a lunch call-to me! This is where she has been making calls to me and I had no idea how beautiful and quaint it was!

There are adorable little shops all around {boutiques} and overall just has a very valley feel to it {for all those native to California!}.  We ate at a Mediterranean Cafe called Ali Baba. Just delicious! I had beef tenderloin kabobs, with couscous and mozzarella with tomatoes. My mom had some delicious lamb kabobs with Tabouli and hummus. Ah, I love that we could get away to a cozy Mysteria Lane environment and STILL have some delicious Mediterranean food! THAT was a treat.

So, the decor in this cafe was amazing! Just a little cafe on a little island, and attention to detail did not fail. Here is what I am talking about. They had these gorgeous arches and chandeliers to die for!
