{Community} Bike Movement

leave a comment »

Today I am writing from the beautiful city of San Francisco. The city always reminds me how much I want to be a part of a community that is truly focused on public & bike transportation. The focus of bikes in San Francisco always opens my eyes to the fabulous combination of fun & functionality. The bikes that can be found riding around are so specific to the rider for height, personality and strength.

I came across PUBLIC bikes and felt they captured the fun and functionality that can be found in bikes from Amsterdam to New York. Their bikes begin with the classic European frame and are made from a lightweight steel, and three gear configurations using internal hubs. These bikes range from $650-$1200.

I love the baby blue color of this one. Totally unisex, made for all shapes & sizes and especially female-friendly which is fantastic.

Another company I love is Velorbis bikes. Their bikes are also based on the timeless Dutch bike complete with mudguards. These bikes start at $1700.

Is your community public & bike transit friendly? How are you participating in the movement? Don’t be afraid to combine fun & functionality and explore all the bikes that are available these days. It will be great for the environment, your health and the community. -xx

The Golden Age : King Tut

There is a long {and growing} list of reasons why I want to {and will} move to San Francisco. The culture of the city is high-ranking on my list and from June 27, 2009 – March 28, 2010 the de Young Museum will be displaying numerous works from the tomb of Tutankhamun; King Tut!

I have long had an obsession with mummies – mainly the coffins that enclose them. Those coffins are so detailed, elaborate, and luxurious. Mainly the pairing of gold and cool blues get my attention. Egypt and the whole Golden Age has always intrigued me, and with my obsession with gold in art and life, it seems perfect. They just look so gorgeous, so rich and so powerful. To top it off, the history of the creations in the exhibit date back to the 18th Dynasty (1555 – 1305 BC) and that blows me away.

While having travel fresh on my mind, I was read an amazing article on the Hot Hotels of 2009. They were just gorgeous! Check out this one from the Veranda, Chiang Mai in Thailand.

From the beginning, they create a Zen-like atmosphere where the reception area has cocoon-like lanterns above. You can get a room starting under $250. Look at that calm water!

Then, high on the cliffs of Hermanus, there is the Birkenhead House in South Africa that totally overlooks the beach. Ahhh.

Delicious. Then, if you simply don’t want to leave your room yet want to dip into some water, this is for you. The Palais Rhoul at Marrakech is located in Morocco (Northern Africa).

You should consider something different and special for your next travel experience. As for me, where will I go next? Hmm. . . so many places to choose from!
